Attention Mississaugians – GivingTuesday is coming to your city!

Inspired by the GuelphGives campaign of 2014, the MississaugaGives team is planning a city-wide GivingTuesday celebration on December 1st, 2015, and we want you to participate!

In partnership with non-profit and charitable organizations, local businesses and the citizens of Mississauga, our team will encourage charitable giving across our city – working towards some very ambitious goals.

For our first ever city-wide GivingTuesday celebration, we have the following goals for the launch of MississaugaGives:

  • Involve 200 local businesses
  • Involve 80 local charities
  • Involve 100 local schools
  • Collect 2,000 clothing items on GivingTuesday
  • Collect 1,000 pounds worth of food items on GivingTuesday
  • Collect 50 hair donations on GivingTuesday
  • Collect 1000 toy donations on GivingTuesday

Our team plans to log 5,000 volunteer hours on GivingTuesday and inspire 100 citizens to become regular charity volunteers. And finally, with your help, the MississaugaGives campaign will raise a cool $713,443 for local causes – that’s $1 for every Mississauga resident.

Support the MississaugaGives campaign by using the hashtag, #SaugaGives. Not from Mississauga? Show us some love anyway! Follow us at @SaugaGives and like us on Facebook. Our website will also be launching in June 2015 so stay tuned!

The University of British Columbia (UBC) launched GivingTuesday and supported the global movement with a campaign to recognize the support and impact of all kinds of donors. The UBC campaign reached their community, brought in new donors and raised more than $10,000 on GivingTuesday.

We were very pleased with how GivingTuesday messaging helped to increase donations, as well as help us acquire new donors.
